Moneyball Blog: "Actions > Words"

posted 2013 May by Desmond Ferguson

For the calendar year of 2013, we will be releasing a new design every month and each design will be a part of the MONEYBALL BAKER'S DOZEN collection. Since there are 12 months in a year, and a baker's dozen equals 13, at the end of the year, we will release a 13th design and anyone that has purchased all 12 designs, will receive the 13th design for FREE!

Each new design release will have a video to go with it.

We will be releasing our fifth new design of 2013 this Wednesday, May 22nd titled “Actions > Words”.

Everyone knows that person or persons, that is always talking about what they can or will do. Some of them sound really good and are great with words, but when it comes to actions, well, that's another story. You say that you have certain goals in life and want to achieve them, so what are you actually doing to pursue those goals and make them a reality? Let's bring our words to fruition by doing..... "Actions > Words"

Be on the lookout for "Action > Words" adult tees and ladies tanks along with the video that will be available this week.

Have a great day!

Moneyball Blog: "No Sacrifice No Reward"

posted 2013 Apr by Desmond Ferguson

 Moneyball is in da building!

We will be releasing our fourth new design of 2013 this Wednesday, April 24th titled “No Sacrifice No Reward”.

As we grow as individuals and chase greatness, throughout that journey we will all have to make sacrifices in our lives. For many of us that means not doing everything that we may want to do, but focusing on the things that we need to do in order to be successful. As a professional athlete, I had to make many sacrifices in order to play at a high level. As opposed to going out with the fellas every night, I had to get to bed early at night so I could be up at 5am to go to the gym and workout. Through consistent workouts, I was able to improve over time and eventually reach my goal of being a professional basketball player. Did I want to go hang with the fellas on many of those nights? I sure did! But I knew if I did that, then I wouldn't have been able to get up in the morning to work out and get better, which I really needed to do. There are many examples that could be posted and I'm sure that you can think of many examples yourself. This is a motto that we believe in, and a motto to live by...... "No Sacrifice No Reward"

We will be releasing our third new design of 2013 this Wed, March 20th called “Good Things Come To Those Who Grind”.

From studying some of the most successful people in life, rather it be the #1 selling musician, the top businessmen or business women in the world, the best athletes in sports, the one common trait that they all have is HARD WORK. There is no substitute for "the grind" (Grind: To devote time and work particularly hard at something). When you make up your mind and have that self discipline to really grind, good things will happen to you. We encourage you to push yourself to limits that you didn't even know that you are capable of reaching. It is a good feeling when you grind towards your goals in life, and you actually accomplish those goals because of the hard work that you have put forward.

Keep moving forward and grinding as much as possible , because "Good Things Happen To Those That Grind".

Moneyball Sportswear Supports Literacy Month

LANSING BASKETBALL PROS SUPPORT READING MONTH WITH BOOK TOUR

Lansing, MIMarch 11, 2013 - In celebration of National Reading Month, three former collegiate and professional basketball stars are participating in a local book reading tour to inspire and motivate local elementary students to continue to develop literacy skills. The reading tour will make appearances at 3 area schools throughout the month, Shabazz Academy, Lewton Elementary and Willow Elementary.

The readers are Desmond Ferguson, owner of Lansing’s Moneyball Sportswear, and former Portland Trailblazer along with his brother, Ron Ferguson, Sexton HS graduate and former member of the SVSU basketball team. “We are excited to revisit our schools and connect with the students on literacy and learning,” says Ferguson. Standing in for Kelvin Tolbert, who participated in its first year, is former MSU standout, Travis Walton.

“Being able to read is an important life skill. Reading has played a significant role in my development as a man as it is something I am passionate about and has allowed me to continue to learn,” said the Moneyball Sportswear owner. Community giving is nothing new for the Lansing entrepreneur, as Ferguson is a long standing supporter of the Lansing youth and athletic community with annual events including free basketball clinics and Professional-Amateur summer tournaments.

“[We]Hope to give back to the youth first and foremost in Lansing. To encourage the youth to dream, to believe in themselves and to set goals with ambitions to accomplish those goals and that you can be successful coming from Lansing, MI,” says Ferguson.

Moneyball Blog: "Chasing Greatness"

Since there are 12 months in a year, and a bakers dozen equals 13, at the end of the year, we will release a 13th design and anyone that has purchased all 12 designs, will receive the 13th design for FREE!

Each new design release will have a video to go with it.

We be releasing our second new design of 2013 this Wed, February 20th called “Chasing Greatness”.

When I think of chasing greatness, I think of great athletes such as, Muhammad Ali, Michael Jordan, Barry Sanders, & Wayne Gretzky. When I think of greatness I think of businesses like Ford, Apple, IBM, & Google. I think of those that have had a major positive impact on peoples lives such as Ghandi & Nelson Mandela. I think of people that have struggled thru adversity, managed to inspire others, and to eventually end up on top. I believe us as human beings should always strive for greatness. Although there is no such thing as perfection, practice makes improvement while having the goal of perfection in mind. Always shoot for the moon, because is you fall short, you land in the clouds.

As a company, we here at Moneyball Sportswear have goals and aspirations of being the #1 Sportswear Company in the world. If we become that or not is to be determined. Hopefully you will grow with us in our quest for greatness and in doing so you will be chasing your own greatness that lies within you.

We're "Chasing Greatness"!

 "The Original Moneyball"

by Sam Riches / @Sam_Riches

It’s a rainy winter night in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The coastal town moves slowly as headlights cut through heavy fog. In the downtown core, cars search for a parking spot outside the Metro Centre, the shared home of the Halifax Rainmen, a National Basketball League of Canada franchise, and the Mooseheads, the local semi-professional ice hockey team.

Inside the arena, Desmond Ferguson lifts his 6-7, 225-pound frame from the bench. To his teammates, his friends and the fans he is known as Moneyball. It’s a nickname based on his ability to knock down three pointers—the moneyball (to continue reading please click here)

Moneyball Blog: What Does Success Do To You?

posted 2012 Oct by Desmond Ferguson

Moneyball is in da building!

What does success do to you?

Does it make you complacent or does it push you to succeed even more?
When some people reach a certain level of success, they begin to become satisfied and not work as hard as they did to become successful in the first place. Then there are others that taste success and they want to taste it again and again, and this motivates them to do more and accomplish more.

Is 10 wins good enough for you, or do you want 100 wins?

The answer to that separates the good ones from the great ones.

Use your successes in life to fuel your fire to continue to chase greatness.

Have a good day!

LCC Marketing Students Win Moneyball Sportswear Sales Competition

posted 2012 May by Desmond Ferguson

Teams Swag and Cha-Ching end on top in the Moneyball Sportswear Sales Challenge

LANSING – Moneyball Sportswear owner and Lansing Black Chamber of Commerce member, Desmond

Ferguson, sponsored a sales and marketing competition with students from Lansing Community College’s

Marketing 200 course.

Approximately thirty students competed on four student-led teams. Winners were determined by the teams with

the most volume of sales attributed to them in the on-line and in-store categories during the contest period of

April 9-23, 2012.

“Team Swag”, led by student Kevin Scott Carr, won the Moneyball on-line sales challenge; “Team Cha-Ching”,

led by student Richard Tannery, won the Moneyball in-store sales challenge.  Concluding the competition the

two winning student teams were awarded Moneyball Sportswear-sponsored prizes and course team bonus

points.

“The Moneyball competition allowed students to put theories learned throughout the course into action.

Overall, I was impressed with the student’s ability to rise to the challenge and to develop out-of-the-box

marketing and promotional ideas for Moneyball Sportswear.” says Dichondra Johnson, competition facilitator

and LCC adjunct faculty member.

“The LCC Marketing 200 class came up with some thoughtful and creative ways to market Moneyball

Sportswear. It enabled the students to get real life marketing experience that I feel will help them pursue their

marketing goals. It was great for us to assist and to be a part of that development,” says Ferguson.

Though the Moneyball Sportswear Sales Challenge ended in April, Ferguson continues to build his company’s

brand awareness, while supporting positive community activities. Moneyball Sportswear will host the

Moneyball Shootout 2012 on May 12-13, 2012, at Aim High Sports near Lansing, MI. The Shootout, geared for

youth basketball teams ages 10-17, and is expected to draw teams locally and from around the state. The

tournament will feature competitive team games throughout the weekend, and a three-point shooting contest for

youth in each age group.

“The Moneyball Shootout is a tournament that not only allows the youth to compete on the basketball court, but

it brings business to the Lansing-area as well. There will be many teams traveling and lodging in Lansing that

are from other cities and states. We want to continue to bring events of this type to this great city,” says

Ferguson.

Moneyball Sportswear Supports Student Marketing Competition

posted 2012 Mar by Desmond Ferguson

Lansing Community College Students Compete in Moneyball Sportswear Sales Challenge

LANSINGMoneyball Sportswear owner and Lansing Black Chamber of Commerce member, Desmond Ferguson is sponsoring an online and in-store competition at his business in conjunction with marketing students at Lansing Community College (LCC).

Approximately thirty students in teams of four from a LCC MKTG 200 course will compete in a sales and marketing challenge for Moneyball Sportswear-sponsored prizes and course points. Students are currently developing their team plans to boost online and in-store sales, as well as brand awareness for the Moneyball Sportswear. The student marketing and sales competition will commence April 9-23, 2012.

Concluding the competition two winning student teams will be identified by Moneyball Sportswear- an online team and in-store team champion.  Winners will be determined by the teams with the most volume of sales attributed to them during the contest sales period.  Moneyball Sportswear will offer customers shopping during the contest period a 20-percent discount upon mention of the four competing team names.

“We are very excited for the opportunity to offer LCC Marketing students real, hands-on marketing experience with a local Lansing-based business, and we are thankful to Desmond Ferguson and Moneyball Sportswear for supporting LCC students,” says Dichondra Johnson, competition facilitator and LCC adjunct faculty member.

In 2002, Moneyball Sportswear, located on Lansing’s Southside, was launched with a vision to take athletic apparel to the next level. The company provides various kinds of athletic sportswear featuring the official Moneyball logo at the local retail store and online, while specializing in custom made team sports uniforms from simple to highly intricate designs.

Ferguson has always had a passion for sports, especially basketball.  He played collegiately for the University of Detroit Mercy, and professionally with such teams as the NBA Portland Trail Blazers and the PBL Halifax Rainmakers in Canada.  A Lansing, MI native and Everett High School alumnus, Ferguson remains devoted to his community. He is committed to operating his business locally and engaging in community service endeavors with Lansing area youth.

“This unique competition represents what we [Moneyball Sportswear] want to do as a company, and this is to play a committed role in the Lansing community. We are looking forward to this competition that the students of LCC MKTG200 class will be a part of, and I am glad we can support it,” says Ferguson.
